The Villa Vitali Historic Park represents an authentic historical and environmental jewel of our city. A place where nature and history intertwine harmoniously, offering a journey through nineteenth-century architecture, suggestive gardens and precious biodiversity. A green oasis that tells the story of the past and looks to the future with renewed attention to the preservation of its heritage.
The only example of a 19th-century garden open to the public, it has always been a place for meeting, walking and relaxing, deeply rooted in the collective memory. Thanks to the PNRR funds (Measure 2, Investment 2.3 – Programs to enhance the identity of places: historic parks and gardens), the Park has been able to benefit from a major restoration project, aimed at restoring it to its former splendor and improving its usability for citizens.
A Park for Everyone, Between Past and Future
Thanks to this ambitious recovery project, the Villa Vitali Park is not only a place of great historical and environmental value, but also a renovated and usable space, where tradition and innovation meet to offer citizens an immersive experience of nature, history and culture.
We invite you to visit it and discover its new splendor up close!

La storia del parco
From the noble dream to the green heart of Fermo
Built in 1860 by the noble Vitali family, the Villa Vitali Park was born from the transformation of an ancient agricultural land into a refined eclectic-style garden. The project, probably curated by the architect Gaetano Manfredi, integrated architectural and natural elements, making the park unique in its kind. Over time, the area has undergone several modifications, becoming municipal property in 1977. Today, among tree-lined avenues, statues and ancient structures, the park retains the charm of its era, testifying to its long history and its connection with the city of Fermo.
The recovery of Villa Vitali Park: a project between history and innovation
The main objective of the project was to restore the Park’s historical image, respecting its original design and enhancing its architectural and botanical richness. Through careful research based on period photographic sources and historical studies, characteristic elements of the 19th-century garden were recovered, integrating them with innovative and sustainable solutions.
The interventions involved both the botanical aspects, with the reintroduction of historical species and the enhancement of biodiversity, and the architectural and decorative elements, which have regained their original form. Furthermore, the accessibility of the Park has been improved, making it safer and more accessible to all.
The main interventions
- Restoration of the historic avenues: the Viale dei Lecci and the Viale dei Pini, central elements of the Park, have been redeveloped with the cleaning of the kerbs, a new gravel subbase and the insertion of parapets and columns on Via Vecchi, to ensure greater accessibility.
- Recovery of flowerbeds and botanical enrichment: many green areas, now bare for decades, have been replanted with a selection of historical species compatible with the context, while improving the biodiversity of the Park.
- Redevelopment of the Cold Greenhouse: this extraordinary brick structure has been made safe and enhanced with new climbing plants and vases, resuming its original function as a space for botanical exhibitions.
- Restoration of the Ex Conigliera: a formerly abandoned area has been transformed into a charming little square, a new meeting point for visitors.
- Reconstruction of the Ex Aviary: starting from the remains of the ancient ellipsoidal base, a new steel structure with a lightweight design has been installed, which will serve as a support for climbing plants and will house an open-air classroom.
- Redevelopment of the Montagnola: this area has been made safe and accessible again, with the restoration of an ancient Roman wall that enriches the archaeological route of the Park.
- Complete restoration of the Hot Greenhouse: today completely renovated, it hosts information panels and educational tools, becoming the hub of communication on the history of the Park. During the works, an ancient underground cistern was discovered, now used to collect rainwater and feed the irrigation system.
A safer, more sustainable and accessible park
The project also included interventions to improve the safety and sustainability of the Park: a new low-consumption lighting system was installed, designed to integrate harmoniously into the historical context, and a video surveillance system to ensure greater protection.
To enrich the visitor experience, information panels with QR codes have been introduced, which allow visitors to delve deeper into the history of the Park and discover details about its architectural and botanical elements through an interactive digital path.
Un tesoro di biodiversita'
The art of gardening between native species and exotic plants
Villa Vitali preserves a rich botanical heritage, the result of the combination of native species and exotic varieties introduced over the centuries. Monumental trees, ornamental flowerbeds and ancient tree-lined avenues make the park an example of cultivated biodiversity, typical of historic Italian gardens. Over time, the park has undergone a progressive decline, but thanks to recovery interventions, its flora has been enhanced and expanded, also favoring the presence of pollinators and local fauna. Today, the Villa Vitali Park continues to be a precious treasure chest of nature and culture, open to all.
