href=\"https:\/\/www.visitfermo.it\/en\/unmissable-events\/cavalcata-dell-assunta\/the-history-of-cavalcata-dell-assunta\">historic references<\/a> dates back to 1182<\/strong>, <strong>is an historical re-enactment that takes place in the evening of 14 August and in the afternoon of 15 August in Fermo\u2019s streets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In its more modern and recent edition, it turned forty years in 2021, but it\u2019s still able to thrill Fermo\u2019s citizens and tourists coming in Marche.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitfermo.it\/en\/unmissable-events\/cavalcata-dell-assunta\/the-contrade\">Ten contrade<\/a> (city quarters) take part to it<\/strong> and each of them has a Priore (Prior) as leader and it\u2019s characterized by its own colours and by a coat of arms, a shield with the Contrada\u2019s motto and a symbol recalling its history and features.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space dell\u2019Assunta in Fermo<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1635265719386{padding-top: 15px !important;}&#8221; el_class=&#8221;testo&#8221;]Precisely as in Middle Ages, the <strong>Cavalcata dell\u2019Assunta<\/strong> is made up of a <strong>Parade that passes by the city centre on 14 August in the evening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The parade\u2019s <strong>attendees<\/strong> <strong>are contradaioli (city quarter\u2019s inhabitants) and the political personalities of the city<\/strong>, all of them <strong>wearing<\/strong> amazing <strong>clothes of medieval inspiration<\/strong>. Great attention is paid also to the loyal recreation of ever existed medieval clothes: bystanders will be able to admire ladies with hair tied with ribbons (called a coazzone), wearing gamurre, petticoats, covered with pellande, wide cloaks sometimes in furs or with decorations. el_class=&#8221;testo&#8221;]<strong>The Palio dell\u2019Assunta days start with the reading of the Bando della Cavalcata e del Palio<\/strong> (the Cavalcata\u2019s and Palio\u2019s announcement), followed by the Investiture of the city quarters\u2019 Priors and Gonfaloniers and the St. Mary Fair.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the true and proper race, the city quarters face in <strong>medieval games like<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tiro alla fune<\/strong> or tiro al canapo (tug of war);<\/li>\n<li>the Astore, that is <strong>historical archery<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>the Golden Rooster<\/strong>, a game among the Tamburini (drummers) of each contrada<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find also the <strong>traditional dishes of Marche<\/strong> prepared by the <strong>Hostarie in Piazza del Popolo; el_class=&#8221;testo&#8221;]<strong>The race<\/strong>, which <strong>takes place in two heats on 15 August in the afternoon<\/strong>, is made up of the fundamental <strong>moment of the Berbers\u2019 Trade<\/strong>, that is the draw to assign to each Contrada a horse.<\/p>\n<p>It starts <strong>drawing the Contrades\u2019 names from the helmet of the Master-at-arms belonging to the last winning Contrada<\/strong>. A page draws the names, while the Prior of each drawn Contrada will pick from the helmet of the city Master-at-arms the name of the horse that, from that moment on, will be linked with its Contrada.<\/p>\n<p>A cockade with the city quarter\u2019s colours is pinned on the horse, called b\u00e0rbero (berber); a jacket with the same colours is given to the jockey that will take part to the race by the Dama di Contrada (the Lady of the Contrada).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cavalcata dell\u2019Assunta<\/strong> starts following the strict rules that govern the Palio\u2019s start, in <strong>two different heats<\/strong>. T<strong>he first placed of each heat will face in the final race<\/strong>, which will sanction the <strong>winner of Palio dell\u2019Assunta<\/strong>.
